You might have been hearing about it more and more. Position Zero is a term that SEOs have been throwing around a lot lately. It’s not just technical jargon, it’s actually a pretty great achievement for a local business, whether it be in Staten Island, or anywhere else.

Google is always trying to get people the information they want as quickly as possible. It is their defining goal to help you get the information you are looking for from one source and being happy without having to spend a lot of time. Some would argue they have a few other defining goals, but that’s a topic for another day.
It also happens to help them out in many ways when people stay on their SERP (search engine results page) without leaving to go to some other site. Having you happy to hang out on their page rather than jumping to another one definitely doesn’t hurt them; Much the same way Facebook prefers you to stay on site when reading rather than jumping to another URL.

How can I achieve position zero?
There are a few different ways to achieve position zero:
- Be clear – being clear and concise with your information will help Google better understand your topic
- Be BOLD – we mean this literally! Using some bolded words can help Google to understand your subject and the words surrounding it.
- No filler – keep your grammar tight, clear, and concise. Our writers here use apps like Grammarly and Hemmingway Editor to help with grammar and clarity.
Is Position Zero good?
Position Zero admittedly has mixed reviews depending on where you look or who you talk to. We personally think it’s a great thing. Anything that helps our clients to score more real estate on page one of the SERPs is fine by us!
You can also still achieve position one or two at the same time. Our subject here didn’t, but it was just below at position 3. That will also give you an idea of our content compared to some of the other stuff out there.
Don’t be afraid. Be yourself, write well, and get your information out there. Do a little bit of link building on top of that, and you will be just fine. Google treasures good information above all else in their journey towards a perfect user experience for me, you, and everyone else out there searching!
